While he fears an increase in dropping out of school after a year disrupted by the coronavirus, Jean-Michel Blanquer must present his "learning vacation" scheme this Saturday. The objective? Prepare the children for the start of the September school year.

What if the holidays helped to fight against dropping out of school? This is the idea behind the "learning vacation" system that the Minister of National Education Jean-Michel Blanquer must present this Saturday at 10 am. While the confinement and the very partial resumption of schools, because of the anti-coronavirus health protocol, raise fears of an increase in school dropout, the Minister will launch this plan proposing several offers so that the children can be ventilated, while learning .

"Learning summer camps"

Among the proposals are "learning summer camps". They will be organized throughout the summer and reserved for children aged 6 to 16 from priority education zones. These colonies must take place over a minimum week in the region or within a radius of 200 kilometers from the pupil's place of residence.

But there is no question of enclosing the pupils three hours a day in a class, "the idea is above all to go on vacation, to get some fresh air, to learn to live together while mobilizing skills and knowledge", explains to the microphone of Europe 1, Louise Fenelon, head of the holidays, children and adolescents commission of the National Union of Tourism Associations.

A concept developed on weekends

In addition to the settlements, the Ministry of National Education has developed its concept with "open truancy", which takes place over a weekend at the seaside or in the countryside. In addition, during all the holidays, the leisure centers will have to adapt and also have a learning vocation.

Last offer to be announced: "open schools". Designed for children who cannot go on vacation, they must allow them to have access to daily activities within the walls of their school.
