05 June 2020 "The recent dramatic events affecting our planet require us to take note of the essential link that exists between the balance of nature and our survival . Our actions, our production and consumption model have led to a reduction of the ability that ecosystems have always had to adapt to changes, while continuing to perform indispensable functions, such as - for example - soil protection, climate and pathogen control ". This was stated by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella , on the occasion of the World Environment Day .

"Today is dedicated to biodiversity - he adds -, that is, to the wealth of the living environment that surrounds us. Protecting and restoring biodiversity means enhancing life and balance in its different forms, connections, variables species and ecosystems. The richness of biological diversity is a source of resilience for our societies. Compromising all this means increasing the chances that environmental changes will come to us as disasters ".

"Today, to get out of the difficulties we are facing, it is precisely research , scientific culture that we need most together with forward-looking policies that can imagine and make accessible a near future of sustainable prosperity".
