June 05, 2020 The United Kingdom has become the second country in the world, after the United States, to officially register more than 40,000 coronavirus-related deaths.

According to Johns Hopkins University, 40,344 died and 284,730 were infected.

In an open letter, over one hundred scientists urged the British government to postpone further relaxation of the restrictions. "Despite a two-month lockdown, we are still having an unacceptable number of daily deaths, still hundreds and about 8,000 new infections a day in England alone," reads the document.
