Maria is entering the third semester of the nursing program. Last spring she became ill with a fever and cough. Because of the illness, she missed several exams.

"Thinking about changing college"

Like her student friend Anna Pantefors, she feels that she has been trapped since the education in Borås was reshaped. And the fact that they missed the exams because of it has extra large consequences.

- It's very unclear. As it seems right now, I have to read about a whole year with some parts credited. And I'm thinking of changing college, she says.

According to the University of Borås, there are parts of the nursing program that cannot be done remotely. On their website, the university writes that they must ensure that the exam is conducted in a legally secure manner. According to the school, the students' knowledge must meet high quality requirements with regard to patient safety.

University: "Not our wording"

The university refers to the Infection Protection Act and writes that if you infect someone else you can be convicted of the crime of abuse.

- That's not our wording. It is in the Infection Protection Act. This applies regardless of whether it is a corona or any other spread of infection, says Academy Director Päivi Riestola.

"Have your own responsibility"

The background to that information, according to Päivi Riestola, was that there were students at the beginning of the semester who were worried that other students would deliberately come to an exam and get infected.

- Every student and not least nursing students have a responsibility to ensure that they do not infect others, says Päivi Riestola.

If you miss any exams because you have been ill, you have to go on the next scheduled round. But no extra test cases are given beyond what is already planned.
