The general secretary of the Snuipp-FSU teaching union, Francette Popineau, defends a "coherent" relaxation of the health protocol in schools. However, he will not intervene "right away".

INTERVIEW

Yes, but not "right away": the Minister of National Education Jean-Michel Blanquer has ruled out an immediate relaxation of the health protocol adopted in schools in the face of coronavirus, while hoping that this can happen "soon". On Europe 1, the general secretary of the Snuipp-FSU teaching union, Francette Popineau, defends a "coherent" and "cautious" adaptation, by making the health of the students a priority.

"News that would relieve everyone"

This relaxation "would be news that would relieve everyone," said the union official. "If today the medical authority tells us that this protocol can be lightened, we will be the first satisfied" because, "today, it is very difficult to class in the conditions that are given" to teachers, with frequent hand washing and physical distancing sometimes difficult to enforce in children.

CORONAVIRUS ESSENTIALS

> Economic crisis: "There are going to be two shocks, one on unemployment and one for young people"

But if the protocol were to be lightened, it would have to be with "consistency", according to Francette Popineau: "If we can accommodate more students in the classes, which would be a very good thing, it should not be that "We are told that every hour they have to go and wash their hands. The sinks will not have grown overnight and that would take a long time." It therefore calls for all these rules to be "reviewed".

What timing?

When should this relaxation take place? "It is health that guides us, so it is the medical authority that will decide on the right timing", sweeps the head of Snuipp-FSU. "It would be good if we were warned early enough so that we could reorganize all of this and warn the families, so that things could go smoothly." Because, she insists, it is a "complex exercise" that awaits the educational community.
