Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif announced the completion of an exchange of prisoners that included the American Michael White, in exchange for the release of the Iranian doctor, Majeed Taheri.

In his tweet on Twitter, Zarif added that this pace could be repeated with all prisoners, stressing that all Iranian citizens who were arrested around the world by order from America or inside America should return to their homes.

For his part, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo welcomed Iran's release of former US Navy soldier Michael White, who had been detained for nearly two years.

Pompeo said Iran was constructive with White's release, but there was more to be done, stressing that the United States would not rest until every American held in Iran and around the world was returned.

Pompeo called for the release of American citizens Bakir Namazi, Siamak Namazi and Murad Tabaz, who have been detained in Iran for a very long time, and to provide a full explanation of what happened to the citizen Robert Levinson.

Pompeo also commended the negotiations of the US special envoy to Iran, Brian Hook, for the release of White, and thanked the Swiss government for facilitating these negotiations.

And Zarif announced last Tuesday that a plane carrying Iranian scientist Cyrus Asgari - who was imprisoned in the United States and acquitted of his name - took off from America on his way back to the country.

"Hello friends, good news, Dr. Cyrus Asgari is in the air on a plane back to Iran. I extend my congratulations to his wife and family," Zarif said on his Instagram account.

Asgari was accused in 2016 of a US court of stealing trade secrets during an academic visit to Ohio, and was acquitted last November, but he remained imprisoned for reasons apparently related to immigration laws.

Zarif urged Washington last March to release Asgari, who he said was one of several scientists being held hostage by the United States.
