04 June 2020 The former mayor of Verona, Flavio Tosi, is among the suspects in the investigation of the Venice DDA which led to 26 precautionary measures, including 23 arrests, against a criminal association that acted in the Scaligerian capital, attributable to the gang of the 'ndrangheta of the Arena-Nicosia. The charge for the former mayor would have been contested in embezzlement.

The accusations
The other suspects are, in various capacities, responsible for mafia association, drug trafficking, money laundering, extortion, fraudulent transfer of goods, issuing false invoices for non-existent operations, scam, corruption and disturbed freedom of enchantments, sometimes aggravated by mafia mode.

The investigations
The investigations cover a period from 2017 to 2018. The district attorney's office of Venice directed them and were conducted by a working group made up of investigators from the First Division of the Central Operational Service of the State Police and the policemen of the Verona and Venice.

The Prosecutor of Venice: "worrying situation"
"It is an investigation into organized crime that affects Verona for the first time, after Padua and the eastern Veneto area, which demonstrates the structured presence of organized crime in the region and specifically the ' ndrangheta of the Arena-Nicoscia gang of Isola Capo Rizzuto, headed by the Giardino family ". The prosecutor of Venice Bruno Cherchi speaks. "Once again we have been able to highlight that the 'ndrangheta has valued relationships other than the parent company with fictitious businesses that laundered money involving entrepreneurs especially construction workers and compliant public administration men, creating cash funds that were then used for the most varied criminal activities in starting from drug dealing. What happened in Veronese - he concluded - confirms what happened in other places in the Veneto region and is worrying ".
