May 26, 2020 In the old continent, Sweden is now concerned about the number of infections and deaths compared to that of the population. The Swedish Public Health Agency said it has recorded over 4,000 deaths and 33,843 confirmed cases, out of a total population of 10.3 million inhabitants. The country had initially taken a soft approach to restrictive measures, schools and restaurants remained open throughout the period. Social distancing has been left to the sense of responsibility of individuals. But in the last 24 hours it is dealing with a high mortality rate: 4,125 deaths, or about 40 deaths in 24 hours per 100 thousand people.

But "Transmission is slowing down, treatment of Covid-19 ICU patients is decreasing significantly and the growing death toll curve has been flattened," Foreign Minister Ann Linde told foreign correspondents in a briefing in Stockholm. "There is no complete lockdown in Sweden, but many parts of Swedish society have closed," he added.

Great Britain, second country in the world in the number of deaths after the USA It
rises to about 47,000 deaths - against the slightly less than 37,000 ascertained by the swab and certified until yesterday by the Ministry of Health - the media estimate on coronavirus deaths in the UK based on weekly statistical calculations by the Office for National Statistics (Ons), the British equivalent of Istat. Processing that also includes cases where Covid-19 is indicated as a probable cause or cause in death certificates.

The ONS indications, updated to 15 May, count 42,713 of these cases in England and Wales. Sum to which must be added the approximately 4000 total deaths of Scotland and Northern Ireland and those estimated between 15 May and yesterday. However, the number of deaths recorded in the country in the most recent week is the lowest in the last six weeks. In absolute numbers, the Kingdom is second in the world after the USA and first in Europe for deaths from Covid, considering both the figure of 37,000 and the estimate of over 47,000. In relation to the population, it follows Belgium and Spain and is head to head with Italy. The flattening of

the curve in Spain, the government reviews the death toll downwards
Spain shows a considerable flattening of the curve of coronavirus cases in the last week or so with an average of only 45 infections reported per day: this is what emerges from official statistics published by the newspaper El Pais. Meanwhile, the government of Madrid yesterday revised downwards the death toll caused by the virus in the country, marking 1,918 fewer, for a total of 26,834 victims. A revision due to the introduction of a new counting system that allows to identify duplicates and - above all - to exclude deaths that had been wrongly attributed to Covid-19, explained an official from the Ministry of Health.

Spain remains one of the countries most affected by the coronavirus in the world with 235,400 cases overall (it is the fifth after the USA, Brazil, Russia and the United Kingdom) and 26,834 deaths. However, statistics indicate that since last Thursday the number of new daily cases has remained around 40-50 units, with a peak of 70 infections only last Sunday, and a daily average of just over 45. Meanwhile, the Council of Ministers has today declared ten days of official mourning for coronavirus victims. La Vanguardia reports it. It will be the longest mourning period in the recent democratic phase of Spanish history. In addition to flags at half-mast across the country, an event in memory of the dead led by the head of state, King Felipe VI, will also be held these days.

In Germany 432 new infections and 45 deaths
Germany recorded 432 new cases of infection from Covid-19 in 24 hours, which brings the total to 179,002, as indicated by the Robert Koch Institute for infectious diseases. There were 45 deaths in a day to a total of 8,302 since the beginning of the epidemic. A total of 162 thousand people were healed (+800). Yesterday there were 289 new cases of Covid-19 registered in 24 hours and 10 deaths, with a lethality rate stable at 4.6% and an estimated contagion index decreasing at 0.83%.

Germany extends distancing until 29 June
The German government has decided to extend the social distancing measures in force to combat the spread of coronavirus until 29 June. Based on the measures decreed by the executive together with the 16 federal states, up to 10 people or two families will be able to meet "in public"; the recommendation is to "keep the number of people with whom we have the lowest possible contact" and to favor "outdoor" meetings. In a draft circulated in recent days the hypothesis of an extension until 5 July was indicated.

France, decreasing hospitalizations and patients in resuscitation
The number of Covid-19 French patients in resuscitation continues to decline, according to data provided yesterday evening by the Directorate-General for Health: 46 fewer than the previous day, for a total of 1,609. Hospitalizations are also falling again, which in the last 24 hours have decreased and in the hours 387 units have decreased, to 16,798. However, the total number of deaths still slips, which the authorities updated for the last time last Friday due to the insufficient reliability in the flow of data from the territory during the long weekend of the Ascension.

In the Netherlands, 26 more deaths and 133 new infections
Dutch health authorities report that 10 other people have been hospitalized since yesterday due to coronavirus. At the same time, there are 26 other deaths that rise to 5,856. There are 133 new cases for a total of 45,578. The Rivm Institute recalls that not all of these patients have been hospitalized or have died in the past 24 hours. Some patients are reported later. That's why past days' data is often integrated.
