Jerusalem was the first target of the Israeli aggression in 1967, as the occupation forces isolated Jerusalem from its surroundings in the West Bank.

The Israeli plan to occupy the West Bank and Jerusalem was based on a decisive blow to any forces north of Jerusalem to control the heights around the city, which would facilitate encirclement and tighten control over the roads leading to it.

On June 5, 1967, the Israeli forces cordoned off the city of Jerusalem, and the paratroop brigade occupied Jabal al-Tur from the east, while from the north, the infantry brigade and an automatic brigade were stationed, while the infantry brigade reinforced with artillery and tanks was occupying Jabal al-Mukabbar.

On the morning of June 7, 1967, Israeli warplanes and artillery began attacking Jordanian positions in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, then the occupation surrounded the city from the north and south, while the neighborhoods fell outside the Old Jerusalem market, and fighting continued inside the city's streets.

On the same day, the occupation focused its aerial and artillery shelling on the hills of East Jerusalem in Mutla 'and Mount of Olives, and the Paratroopers Brigade advanced towards the Museum Square, Ras al-Amud and Silwan.

At ten in the morning of June 7, Israeli forces stormed East Jerusalem and occupied its neighborhoods and main streets, and reached the Al-Aqsa Square and the Buraq Wall, then the entire city was taken over in the evening.
