During a meeting on Tuesday, the Environment and Health Protection Administration and infection control physician Jan Smedjegård decided that the pubs in Västerås will not be given more chances. This is because the weekend inspections of the pubs left something to be desired.

No place has so far been closed but now patience has run out according to Inspector Andreas Berg Mörén at the Environmental and Health Protection Administration.

- Respect for the public has diminished and there is a big difference in how seriously the guests take this, he says.

Coming weekend, the infection protection physician Jan Smedjegård will be available to be able to make a decision on closure immediately or no later than the day after. The municipal inspectors cannot decide whether to close the taverns or cafes without the formal decision being made by the infectious surgeon. However, this procedure may change.

Municipalities can gain more muscle

According to a proposal from the government, municipalities should be given greater powers to close places themselves in the future. The idea is that the bill will come into force on July 1 this year. If this goes through, the municipalities themselves can make closure decisions or impose fines, which can facilitate the entire chain, according to Inspector Andreas Berg Mörén.

What does it mean to you if the proposal becomes a reality?

- The advantage is that we can distribute penalties such as changed opening hours or how many people there may be in the room. At present it is only on or off, closed or open.
