The head of the Indian archaeological survey, Vasant, said: "A part of the original structure, a sandstone railing has been damaged." In addition, a marble railing, the tourist waiting area and part of the gate building have also been damaged.
According to local media reports, thunderstorms and lightning caused at least 13 deaths in two districts of Uttar Pradesh on May 29.
Reports say that fatal thunderstorms are more common in India during the monsoon season from June to October.
