June 01, 2020 The fifth finalist of the 58th edition of the Campiello Prize, a contest of contemporary Italian literature promoted by the Fondazione Il Campiello - Confindustria Veneto, was announced today during the program on Rai 5 "Third page".During the vote the Jury of the Literati voted among the over 200 books admitted to the competition by the Technical Committee: in the 1st round with 7 votes the poet Patrizia Cavalli , with the poetic prose "With Japanese steps" (Einaudi), on the 2nd round with 7 votes Sandro Frizziero , "Sommersion" (Fazi Editore), in the 3rd round with 6 votes the songwriter and writer Francesco Guccini , "Trallumescuro. Ballad for a country at sunset" (Writers Giunti), in the 4th round with 7 votes Remo Rapino, "Life, death and miracles of Bonfiglio Liborio" (minimum fax; candidate with the same book this year also for the Strega Prize) and with 7 votes Ade Zeno , "The enchantment of the moon fish" (Bollati Boringhieri).
During the broadcast, the winner of the Campiello Opera Prima Prize was also announced, an award attributed since 2004 to an author at his literary debut. The prize was awarded to Veronica Galletta for "The islands of Norman" (Italo Svevo). Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the ceremony was held in live streaming broadcast during the television program conducted by Licia Troisi, which replaced the traditional public ceremony in Padua for the choice of the finalists.
During the program the president of the Campiello Prize Foundation and of Confindustria Veneto, Enrico Carraro, and the president of the Jury of the Literati, Paolo Mieli, who retraced the debate between the members of the Jury, made up of personalities from the literary and academic world such as: Federico Bertoni, Daniela Brogi, Silvia Calandrelli, Philippe Daverio, Chiara Fenoglio, Luigi Matt, Ermanno Paccagnini, Lorenzo Tomasin, Roberto Vecchioni, Emanuele Zinato.
During the ceremony on TV, the motivation with which the Opera Prima Prize was awarded was also read: "Veronica Galletta elects the marine space of Ortigia as a memorial sanctuary and clearly and convincingly declines the theme of the archive and mapping The young protagonist, Elena, is engaged in an original recomposition of her past: the scars on her body and the books abandoned (only apparently randomly) by the mother before disappearing are the fragments of a partial cartographic reconnaissance and burdened by oblivion. , the first elements of an investigation conducted on the thin thread of memory ".
The winner of the 58 edition will be announced in the autumn in Venice. The location of the final ceremony is still to be decided: it could be an outdoor venue instead of the usual scenario of the La Fenice Theater. More details on how to organize, carry out and communicate the final phase will be given in the coming weeks, based on the evolution of the general situation.
The winner is chosen by the vote of the Jury of the Three Hundred Anonymous Readers, whose members are selected throughout the national territory based on social and professional categories; jurors change every year and their names remain secret until the final evening.
