The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has said that the outbreak of the Corona virus has caused a double emergency in Yemen.

WHO attributed this to the fact that only half of the health facilities are in service. It added in a statement that more than 12 million Yemeni children are in need of humanitarian assistance, including about half a million who are severely malnourished.

UNICEF also confirmed that its plane was landing in Sanaa airport carrying humanitarian and medical assistance to tackle the Corona virus. She added that this aid included face masks and gloves for workers in the front lines of the health sector.

Four civil society organizations in Yemen have called on parties to the conflict to take action to counter what it described as the horrific spread of the Corona virus in the country, and announced the launch of a humanitarian initiative to unite efforts to combat the epidemic, and transparency in dealing with it.

The four organizations - the Sam Organization for Rights and Freedoms, the American Center for Justice, the Women for Yemen Network, and the Defense for Rights and Freedoms Foundation - called for an urgent three-month truce, the release of detainees, and the organizations also called for the opening of airports, ports and land ports for aid entry.

The Yemeni government authorities announced on Saturday evening, 12 deaths in Koruna, the highest daily death toll from the virus since it appeared in the country on April 10.

The High National Committee to confront the Corona epidemic affiliated with the government said that 27 cases of the pandemic had been detected, and indicated that this brings the total number of cases to 310, including 77 deaths and 13 recovery cases.

This does not include the Houthi-controlled areas, which, as of May 18, had reported 4 cases of corona, including one death.
