How the Chinese are watching American protests very carefully

In a context of tensions between Washington and Beijing, the demonstrations following the death of George Floyd in the United States can be the occasion for the Chinese power to criticize their rival. No public statement for the moment, but the official press has been talking widely about the riots for two days, and takes the opportunity to discredit the government of Donald Trump.

On CCTV, state television protests in the United States are widely covered, with analysis and live monitoring of the situation. The channel talks about a racial divide and presents the cities where the demonstrators gathered as "war zones". According to a journalist, American version of human rights is nothing but hypocrisy.

In the press, even your offensive tone. The Global Times , very close to the Chinese Communist Party, parallels the protests in Hong Kong, while Donald Trump signed a law last November that supported the protest movement. For the newspaper, Washington would have done better to devote itself to Minnesota and the underprivileged classes.

The news agency China Nouvelle publishes on Twitter a photo of the riots in the United States with the title: "  It is a beautiful image  ". In reference to the formula used last summer by Nancy Pelosi, president of the House of Representatives about a demonstration in Hong Kong .
