On Sunday, Egypt decided to reduce the hours of the night curfew by one hour, while setting a new record for cases and daily deaths of the emerging corona virus.

The Ministry of Health said that it recorded 1536 new infections and 46 deaths, which raised the total to 24985 and 959 deaths.

Earlier on Sunday, Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouly's office announced that the night curfew would be modified to end at 5 am instead of 6 am. The ban will start from eight in the evening, after it started at five in the evening throughout the past week, which included the Eid al-Fitr holiday.

The curfew is one of Egypt's measures to combat the virus, as well as the closure of schools, cafes and places of worship.

The government announced an increase in the number of hospitals designated to deal with cases of coronavirus from 340 to 376, in addition to facilities previously designated for quarantine.

The number of laboratories able to conduct sample testing has also increased from 49 to 57.

According to a government statement, there are 3,539 beds in the intensive care units in hospitals that are qualified to treat patients with Coronavirus and 2218 ventilators.

The officials hinted that they are looking to gradually ease restrictions and return to economic activity despite the accelerated number of confirmed injuries.

The state allowed the restarting of hotels that implement safety standards, while obliging them to accommodate no more than 25 percent of their capacity.
