The Italian Fabio Fognini, 11th world player and winner of the Masters 1000 of Monte Carlo in 2019, will undergo an arthroscopy of the two ankles on Saturday, he announced on social networks.

"After a medical examination and a long discussion with my team, I decided to undergo an arthroscopy of the two ankles. I will be operated today (Saturday) in Italy. I think it is the right decision while the circuit is at a forced stop, "writes Fabio Fognini in a message posted on his Twitter account, saying" impatient to play again ".

"I have had a problem with my left ankle for three and a half years, it is a concern that I have learned to deal with. Then my right ankle has started to do its own in the past two years", explains the Italian player , who just turned 33.

"I had hoped that these various problems would disappear during my two-month break because of the confinement, but when I resumed training, they were still there," he continues.

World tennis has been stopped since the beginning of March and at least until the beginning of August due to the pandemic of new coronavirus, after notably the postponement of Roland-Garros in the fall and the outright cancellation of Wimbledon.

Currently at the gates of the top 10, Fognini had made a foray into it for a few weeks in 2019, for the first time, following his victory in Monte-Carlo, the most prestigious of his career, and an eighth-final in Roland Garros.
