- It was raining in the kitchen and we had to put out buckets and pans. It was real chaos, says Annie.

In the summer of 2019 Annie and her husband chose to install 46 solar panels on their villa roof in Värmdö. Shortly after the installation was completed, it rained for several days and it was then that Annie discovered the leak.

“The brackets are wrong”

The couple quickly called for help to the company that performed the installation, but was told that an installer could not come until the week after. As the forecast for the whole weekend was heavy rain, the couple worried that the damage would be even greater.

- We brought in a craftsman who could immediately say that it is the brackets that are wrong, Annie tells SVT's consumer editorial Plus.

Several reviewers

After the rainy weekend, the company sent a fitter who moved five of the panel mounts.

- Then it stopped raining, says Annie.

To be on the safe side, Annie and her husband also brought in a roofing specialist and an inspection company for a review. Both assessors then determined that the solar panel brackets were mounted so that it did not close tightly to all roof tiles. According to them, water can flow through the gap.

The company does not want to compensate

But despite this, the company does not want to compensate for the damage in the kitchen, where the couple had to replace tiles, cooker hood and kitchen cabinets. Annie also wants the company to review the rest of the mounts.

- But they say they haven't done anything wrong.

Annie not alone

Unfortunately, like Annie, the house is damaged after a solar installation is not unusual. A survey done by the Rise research institute shows that it is one of several things that can happen in connection with such an installation.

- It feels like you can't come to a rest, because the roof is so important, says Annie.
