According to reports, an Indian laboratory technician encountered a group of monkeys while walking on the campus of a public medical school.
"The monkeys ran away after grabbing the blood sample. This is the blood sample of 4 new crown patients undergoing treatment ... We had to collect their blood sample again," said Garg, a senior official at the college.
Indian authorities say they do not yet know whether the monkeys spilled blood samples, but people living near the wooded campus worry that if the monkeys take the samples to residential areas, the virus will spread further.
Garg said it is unclear whether monkeys will become infected with new coronavirus after being exposed to infected blood. "There is no evidence that monkeys will be infected."
