“On May 25, the state-owned television company TV Cubana began round-the-clock broadcasting of the RT channel in Cuba. There is a broadcast in Spanish, of course. We consider this an important step in strengthening the strategic partnership in the information sphere between the media, ”Zakharova said at a briefing.
She noted that RT broadcasting in Cuba “will enrich and complement the audience’s ability to choose based on different points of view.”
On May 21, Radiocuba, in collaboration with TV Cubana, launched a test broadcast of two new high-resolution digital television channels: HD3 and HD4. On Monday, May 25th, HD4 began broadcasting the RT signal in Spanish around the clock.
In 2018, the Ministry of Communications of Russia and the Cuban Institute of Radio and Television signed an agreement in the field of mass communications, one of the points of which concerns the expansion of RT broadcasting on the island.
According to the Ipsos study, RT is one of the top five most popular international news channels by weekly audience in ten countries in Latin America. RT website in Spanish outperformed Spanish versions of BBC, Euronews, France 24 and teleSUR (SimilarWeb).
On YouTube, RT en Español leads the way in Spanish-language news channels, bypassing the Spanish-language versions of the BBC, CNN, Euronews and teleSUR in terms of views.
RT in Spanish became the first foreign television channel to launch broadcasting in the state networks of Argentina and Venezuela, gaining access to national audiences.
The channel has repeatedly become the winner and finalist of various international awards, including the New York Festivals and Promax Awards.
