China News Agency, United Nations, May 28th-United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Bachelet issued a statement on the 28th, condemning the US police's law enforcement process leading to the death of African American George Floyd (George Floyd) and urged The US authorities took measures to stop similar incidents.

According to the "New York Times" report, on May 24, Freud was arrested by the police in Minneapolis, Minnesota. At that time, three policemen pressed him to the ground, and one of the white policemen pressed his neck with his knee for several minutes. Freud then fell into a coma and died after being treated in emergency. At present, the four police officers involved have been dismissed, and federal authorities announced that they will intervene in the investigation.

Freud was posted on social media after being photographed by the police during his arrest. This incident led to a wave of protests in Minneapolis and other American cities.

Bachelet said that the killing or injury of unarmed African-Americans has repeatedly occurred in the United States in recent years. American authorities must take serious action to stop such killings and ensure that justice is extended after the incident.

Bachelet said that law enforcement and other related procedures must be changed, and the prevention system must be in place. Most importantly, police officers who use excessive force should be held accountable according to law. She also said that in a considerable number of similar cases in the past, the authorities' investigation either excused the police, and ultimately did not hold the relevant personnel legally responsible; or only through administrative means. She pointed out that in these deaths, entrenched and widespread racial discrimination is an unavoidable factor, and the United States must face this problem and deal with it seriously.

Bachelet said she understood the anger caused by Freud ’s killing and urged people in Minneapolis and elsewhere to insist on peaceful protests. She said that violence and destruction of property do not help with police violence enforcement and widespread discrimination. She also urged the police to exercise maximum restraint and avoid further excessive use of force to fuel the current situation. (Finish)
