The Kings begin their particular institutional de-escalation. They pass to Phase 1. Given the evolution of the epidemic and the subsequent indications by Health, they are adapting their agenda and the format of their activities to the phases that the health authorities determine for the different territories of the national geography, with a progressive increase of its external presences and also of the different sectors of Spanish society in the Palacio de la Zarzuela. In this sense, this Thursday, they staged their first reception in this health crisis. A meeting with eight young people, where the new mandatory protocol has been demonstrated: without physical contact, with masks and maintaining social distance.

A new format forced by the coronavirus pandemic. Until now, the Kings have maintained an intense activity through telematic meetings or punctual visits to key centers in the fight against the virus. Only the ministers had traveled to Zarzuela to have meetings with the King. This "open dialogue", as they have called it in the Casa del Rey, with eight young people from research, technology, business, culture and social action is the first notch in the attempt to regain a certain institutional normality.

According to the instructions of the health authorities, in Phase 1, which is where the Community of Madrid is located, meetings of small groups of a maximum of 10 people are allowed, as long as they are not vulnerable people, always keeping the social distance of approximately 2 meters and maintaining the necessary hygiene and safety measures. As the Audience Hall of the Zarzuela Palace is a closed space, both the Kings and their eight guests have used a mask.

KING'S HOUSE

The King: "We are trying to recover a life as normal as possible"

"We are still in the midst of battling the virus and trying to regain a life as normal as possible," were the King's words to his young guests, who almost served as an explanation for this new reception format. "In all this situation we also have to look forward, not just recover, stand up again, and not lose hope. There is a need to hook good messages and I believe that youth, with your preparation and your disposition, are one of the fundamental elements for this new recovery and that new energy that we need. "

For her part, the Queen pointed out that the different "tasks, capacities and companies" of the young people present in the dialogue and "that reflect very well that attitude of seeing things and engaging in this more positive side to continue."

The eight young people, representatives of Spanish talent, have transferred to the Kings the effects that the Covid-19 is having for their respective areas of activity, and will propose various ideas for the future that can help them better overcome the consequences of the pandemic.

Zarzuela has chosen these eight young people as the protagonists of the first reception in the "new normal" that the coronavirus has imposed, coming from sectors such as research, culture, social action, technology or business, because, in the words of Felipe VI "It was a good sample of the talent of our youth. We have been informed and I know that it is not exhaustive but it is, without a doubt, a good sample of what our country can give in all areas." Doña Letizia has been more direct: "You will ask yourselves: 'why us?' Because each one of you is very good at what you do. That is why you are here. "
