The first death of Covid-19 in the United States was announced at the end of February. Three months later, the country has 100,271, according to the latest figures from Johns Hopkins University whose count refers. It also records nearly 1.7 million cases of new coronavirus, of which some 385,000 people have been declared cured. The actual number of deaths and contaminations is, however, significantly higher, experts say. New York State alone accounts for almost a third of the country's deaths.

The first death of the virus in the United States was announced on February 26, although authorities have since confirmed that other people had actually died of the disease as early as mid-February. The threshold of 50,000 dead had been crossed a little over a month ago on April 24.

The number of deaths per capita is however lower in the United States than in several European countries, including the United Kingdom, Belgium, Italy, Spain, France or even Sweden, according to the statistics site Worldometer . According to an average of several epidemiological models carried out by researchers at the University of Massachusetts, the number of deaths from Covid-19 should be close to 123,000 deaths in the country by June 20.

For the third day in a row on Tuesday, the United States lamented fewer than 700 deaths in 24 hours. After having regularly crossed the 2,000 daily death bar between the beginning of April and the beginning of May, the country has not exceeded this threshold for twenty days, even if it still largely exceeded the 1,000 death mark in one day these three last weeks.

Despite this sad record, deconfinement is widely underway throughout the United States, under the impetus of President Donald Trump, determined to revive the economy.
