Field sources announced that the Yemeni government forces advanced in the Al-Tria Front, northeast of Zanzibar, the administrative center of Abyan Governorate, after violent confrontations with the UAE-backed Transitional Council forces.

The sources indicated that the dead and wounded from both sides were killed in the fighting, including the commander of the 153rd Brigade in the National Army, Brigadier General Mohammed Al-Aqili.

A government source told Anadolu Agency that "Brigadier General Mohamed Saleh Al-Aqili was killed along with 4 of his soldiers during clashes with the Transitional Forces in the countryside of Zanzibar."

While government forces took control of a number of key locations for the Transitional Council militants.

A political initiative

On the Sheikh Salem front, the sources indicated that government forces took control of them again, while the Transitional gunmen retreated to the Al-Irsal site and Wadi Hassan.

For his part, Yemeni Foreign Minister Mohammed Al-Hadrami said that the Yemeni government agreed to the initiative of the UN envoy Martin Griffiths, including a ceasefire and the formation of a joint unit to combat the Corona virus, the opening of entire roads, especially Taiz, the opening of Sana'a International Airport for international trips, and the payment of salaries to all employees, The release of all prisoners, and the resumption of consultations, but the Houthis refused the initiative.

He added that the continued refusal of the Houthis is evidence that they do not wish for peace and do not care about the suffering of the Yemenis.

Al-Hadrami called on the UN envoy, the Security Council and the international community to unveil the true obstacle to peace before the world and hold the Houthis fully responsible.
