Libyan Al-Wefaq government forces continued to advance on several axes south of the capital, Tripoli, while closing the city of Tarhuna and surrounded it from more than one axis.

A source told Al-Jazeera correspondent that these forces have taken control of a camp in the Salah al-Din axis, as they have taken control of the Al-Suehli petrol station in the Ain Zara axis, south of Tripoli, and the dental college in Salah al-Din.

The source confirmed that the resistance of Haftar's forces is concentrated in the main road linking Salah El-Din and the Yarmouk camp.

Incursions and axes

At the end of 2019, Haftar's forces invaded sensitive and densely populated areas south of Tripoli, and took control of most neighborhoods and the main camps of Salah al-Din, and was only a few kilometers away from the historic Al-Saray al-Hamra Fort in the center of the capital.

As for the most dangerous axis, it was represented in the Plateau Project, which was controlled by Haftar forces, and advanced from it to the outskirts of the Abu Salim neighborhood, the largest popular neighborhood in Tripoli.

After 5 months of fighting, the forces of the Al-Wefaq government managed, in an attack launched on Friday morning, to expel these forces from the Salah al-Din area, and took control of Al-Takbali camp, the police officers ’college and the criminal investigation headquarters, in addition to the Passports Authority, and managed to move towards the Yarmouk camp (Yarmouk axis) and liberate Large parts of the hub project plateau.

The Al-Wefaq government forces also advanced in other axes south of the capital, such as Ain Zara, and took control of several neighborhoods in this axis.

Serve at Tarhuna

In the city of Tarhuna, southeast of Tripoli, sources from Al-Wefaq government forces said that they tightened the noose on the city, and surrounded it from more than one axis.

It added that it had supported those axes with medium and heavy forces, mechanisms and weapons, in preparation for clashes with Haftar's forces.

According to the Anatolia Agency, only the city of Tarhuna as the main force was left in the western region of Libya, except the city of Tarhuna as the main force, but it became encircled like a crescent after controlling several areas surrounding it.

Corpse and mines

In related developments, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Libyan National Accord government issued a statement saying that it is working with the relevant security and judicial authorities to follow up the matter of the body of a foreign fighter found in the Salahuddin Front, south of Tripoli.

The Ministry revealed that it is preparing a file that includes a photo of the body for transmission to the Security Council after the end of investigations, as further evidence of the use of the forces of retired Major General Khalifa Haftar of mercenaries fighting with them in the Salahuddin Front south of Tripoli.

A foreign statement by the Al-Wefaq government came after the publication of a local Libyan television, which it said was a picture of a Russian mercenary after his death during the liberation battles of Salah al-Din near the capital, Tripoli.

Meanwhile, the National Conciliation Volcano Rampage Operation announced that Al-Wefaq forces had found a Russian anti-personnel landmine.

The spokesman for the forces of the national reconciliation government, Muhammad Qanunu, announced that the reconciliation forces had detected quantities of mines, which Haftar forces had trapped the homes of civilians before fleeing from the Salah El-Din axes, the plateau project and Ain Zara.

Kanounou said at a press conference in Tripoli that orders had been issued to the companies and military engineering teams to fully survey these areas and remove mines and the remains of explosive and unexploded ordnance, before allowing civilians to return to their homes.

Kanunu added that Haftar's forces planted various types of mines on farms, main and secondary roads and doorways.
