There are feelings that Danish authorities allow the discharge of uncontaminated wastewater into the sea, especially during a season when many people are staying on beaches on both sides of the Sound.

- I want a really good explanation for why it has to be done now. Why can't you wait until a later time when the temperature drops and the damage effects become smaller, says Morten Messerschmidt, MP for the Danish People's Party to TV2 Lorry.

Enormous amounts

290,000 cubic meters of wastewater, corresponding to almost 200 filled swimming pools, will be released in the Sound from Sunday and five days onwards.

Chairman of Østerbro Local Committee Allan Marouf is afraid that the emissions will lead to the same consequences as 2017 when seven beaches were closed in the metropolitan area because there was too much hummingbird bacteria in the water.

"There are huge amounts of dirty water that will contaminate our beaches," Allan Marouf told TV 2 Lorry.
