BJP and Congress Party Share Complaints and Charges in India

The tension is at its height between the Hindu nationalist party in power and that of Congress. Following accusations of financial fraud brought by the opposition party, two complaints were filed against its president Sonia Gandhi, Friday, May 22.

It all started on Thursday, May 11 with a tweet from Congress, the main opposition party in India. In this message, fraud charges are laid against the emergency fund launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to fight against the Covid-19.

This fund would total more than a billion euros since its launch on March 27. Congress denounces its opaque management and accuses the Prime Minister of having financed personal trips with this money.

Friday, May 22, two complaints of false accusations were filed by the BJP against Congress president Sonia Gandhi . The Congress party, through its lawyer, has condemned the complaints, claiming that they were using the law to silence the justice system.

Opposition criticizes management of Covid-19 crisis

The same day, during an unprecedented conference between several Indian opposition parties including the AAP and Shiv Sena, a former ally of the BJP, Sonia Gandhi refused to go back on her remarks.

The President, on the contrary, counterattacked. She said that the government had "  no strategy of deconfinement  " and had "  abandoned any claim to be democratic and concerned with the poor  ".
