This was stated by Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov during an online discussion on the relationship between Russia and the United States.

“Today at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs we received an official note from the US Embassy stating that the US government decided to launch the procedure for withdrawing from the Open Skies Treaty,” TASS quoted him as saying.

On May 21, US President Donald Trump announced that the United States would withdraw from the Open Skies Treaty. The decision takes effect after six months.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko said that Moscow intends to fully comply with all the rights and obligations of the treaty as long as it is valid.

He also noted that the Russian side expects from other countries that they will conscientiously approach their duties under the agreement.
