The distribution of masks has not met with crazy success in the Breton capital. To protect its inhabitants from the coronavirus epidemic, the municipality had ordered 250,000 reusable cloth masks. Available in child and adult sizes, the protections have been the subject of a major distribution campaign in city gymnasiums. But after a three-week campaign, many residents did not come to collect their masks. A new distribution operation will therefore open as of Monday.

At the end of the first distribution campaign, there are approximately 90,000 masks in the municipality's boxes. Ordered by the city from local companies, these protections were offered free to residents but only on dates imposed by the city. Not always practical for families. In municipal council Monday, the elected official Gurval Guiguen had regretted "the reluctance of Rennes" to come remove their mask. The majority city had defended itself, evoking the distribution of 140,000 masks to the inhabitants and 20,000 others to associations and Ehpad.

To distribute more, the city has relaxed its system. It will now be possible to make an appointment to come and remove your protection. From Monday May 25 until June 5, registrations will be made online via this link: https: //frama.link/o7YQC7b3. Residents will then be able to go to the district directions and to the town hall provided with the acknowledgment of receipt of the registration, proof of address, identity document and proof of number of people in the household.

A bill of over a million to share

Billed at 4.55 euros each, the masks are provided free of charge by the community. The bill for the city is therefore 1.2 million euros for the city and the metropolis which share the funding. 250,000 other masks had been ordered for the cities of the metropolis and other local communities.
