Between 60 and 70 pro Rajoelina and independent deputies gathered this afternoon to show their solidarity with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. For Christine Razanamahasoa, the president of the National Assembly, the declaration of the deputies is an appeal to the government. In fact, this mediation proposed by deputies can only intervene if the government officially relays it.
She explains why they want to appeal to SADC and the African Union mediation, to Laure Verneau, RFI correspondent in Madagascar: "I find that this is a legitimate remedy and of course a legal remedy given the principle which governs the groupings of countries which present the same interests, defend common interests, political interests, economic interests. France, which is having problems, resorts to the European Union. The decree decided by France was decided unilaterally, while these Glorious Islands, being part of the Scattered Islands are the subject of ongoing negotiations which must be resumed . I find that it is a unilateral decision on the part of France on these islands which should not take place ”.
