When will the second round of municipal elections take place? To try to answer this question, and while the Scientific Council does not object to the vote taking place, the Prime Minister received the leaders of the political parties this Wednesday evening.

A second round on June 28, or a new election in January 2021? These are the two hypotheses that the French government is studying. For the UDI, as for La France Insoumise, there is no question of voting next month . The conditions are not met to hold this election, defends the deputy Alexis Corbière, insofar as no normal campaign can take place. Otherwise, in the end, it is a bit like the bonus for outgoing elected officials. Some have distributed masks in the communes, which I do not blame them for. But these mayors were visible, and those who contest their power were confined.  "

An opinion that does not share Julien Bayou, the boss of the Greens, who recalls that usually, the in-between-round only lasts a week. “  In a normal period, you have a vote on Sunday, and a second vote on the Sunday after. You only have a few days of campaign in reality, a meeting, a leaflet ...  "

The Greens, like The Republicans or the Socialists, are therefore for a second round on June 28. But on condition that strict health rules are set, and that the situation is reassessed 15 days before the election. It is useless to wait, estimates the first secretary of the PS, Olivier Faure. “  No one knows if this coronavirus will have disappeared in September, next year or the following year . Nor can we stop economic life, democratic life. If we wait until the coronavirus has disappeared, we may not have presidential elections in 2022! "

The government is expected to make its position known on Saturday. Parliament will only be consulted if the elections are postponed.
