May 21, 2020 "In no case will we open our borders to countries that do not yet have the situation" of coronavirus infections "under control". Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz says so on Twitter. "Guests must feel comfortable and safe like almost no other country in the world," added Kurz. "We will do everything possible not to endanger our health and keep the contagion low and the borders with countries that have not yet under control the situation remain closed".

"The borders with Italy and Slovenia will not open as quickly because they are delicate," Kurz said again referring to the borders that will be opened soon taking into account the evolution of the coronavirus epidemic in Austria but especially in the neighboring countries, between they also Italy. The Austrian chancellor, during the announcement of the start of the tourist season in Austria and setting it to 29 May, added that "Austrian guests and those from 'safe' countries, such as Germany, are welcome". On 15 June the borders between Austria, Germany, Switzerland and Liechtenstein will be completely open to free movement; and hotels, pensions and accommodations for farm holidays will also be reopened.

"I am happy that this summer we can guarantee maximum safety and maximum fun for Austrians and guests from other safe countries," says Kurz. "Tourism - continues the chancellor - is an important engine of the economy and well-being and creates hundreds of thousands of jobs".

Kurzribadisce that the government will strive for a "good security model". "The goal - he says - is to feel good and safe". For this reason those who work in the tourism sector will be regularly tested.
