(Fighting against New Coronary Pneumonia) Asia-Pacific countries pass resolution calling for unity and cooperation to fight the epidemic

  China News Agency, Bangkok, May 21 (Reporter Wang Guoan) The 76th Annual Meeting of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) adopted by consensus on the 21st "Strengthening Asia-Pacific regional cooperation to address the economic and social impact of infectious diseases and crises" The resolution calls on countries in the Asia-Pacific region to adhere to multilateralism, strengthen regional solidarity and cooperation, and jointly cope with the severe impact of the new coronary pneumonia epidemic on the Asia-Pacific economy and society. The resolution also expressed support for the World Health Organization.

  The resolution expresses its condolences for the loss of life in the Asia-Pacific region and the world caused by the raging of the new crown pneumonia epidemic in 2019. It believes that the primary task of fighting the epidemic is to ensure the safety of life and the health of the people. It calls on all countries to adhere to multilateralism, follow the spirit of unity and multilateral cooperation, and strengthen the region. Cooperation is centered on the people, ensuring that all people can get help and assistance without hindrance. The resolution specifically reaffirmed the key role of the United Nations in responding to the global epidemic, with particular emphasis on the importance of WHO in coordinating global response actions and curbing the spread of the virus.

  After the resolution was adopted, Chinese Permanent Representative to ESCAP Li Hong stated that since the outbreak of the new coronary pneumonia, the countries in the Asia-Pacific region have watched for help and united. At the most difficult time for China, many countries have provided valuable support, and we are deeply grateful. When other countries are hit by the epidemic, China also feels the same, sharing the prevention and control experience without reservation, sending a medical expert team to provide urgently needed medical supplies, and strongly supporting global anti-epidemic.

  Li Hong emphasized that the resolution just adopted by all parties has transmitted a clear and unequivocal political signal, expressed the determination and willingness of Asia-Pacific countries to adhere to multilateralism and unite to fight against the epidemic, and also reaffirmed that WHO is coordinating global anti-epidemic efforts.
