Asvel Lyon-Villeurbanne has initiated a dismissal procedure for its trainer, Montenegrin Zvezdan Mitrovic, who received a letter to that effect, we learned from the technician's lawyer, Xavier Le Cerf-Galle.
"Zvezdan Mitrovic has indeed received a letter which I do not wish to comment on at the moment," Le Cerf-Galle told AFP, confirming information revealed by the regional daily Le Progrès and then L'Équipe.
According to the Team, this letter refers to the technical faults and exclusions with which Mitrovic has been sanctioned for the past two seasons.
"My client is shocked by the procedure which has been initiated against him since May 4 by Asvel. We have nevertheless given the club 24 hours to abandon this procedure which makes no sense, before that things do not become irreversible, "he added.
"Asvel has until Thursday noon to get things back in order. The fact that the press was informed by a source who is not in the entourage of Zvezdan makes me think that the door that we left ajar is about to be slammed. At the time of the end of the season due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Asvel was co-leader of the French championship with Monaco and Dijon but also 15th out of 18 in the Euroleague three points behind 8th and 7th places, both last qualifiers for the quarter-finals.
Former trainer of Boulogne-Billancourt, Frédéric Fauthoux is tipped to replace Mitrovic as trainer of Villeurbanne to whom he still had a year of contract.
