Hundreds of healthcare workers infected: "Don't know how it came in"

Statistics can be read from statistics published by Region Uppsala today. It can also be concluded from this that one-third of all samples taken so far for suspected covid-19 in Uppsala County are health care personnel.

At the Academic Hospital in Uppsala, there will be more than 300 positive cases among precisely healthcare personnel. 2,149 have been sampled.

- It is as in society in general - there is a spread and we do not know how the infection came in and passed on. But we may be able to find places we need to work with when we have come further in analyzing the data, says Mikael Köhler, associate director of health.

What does this say about the spread of the virus in Uppsala County?
- Now it's a guess. But maybe we are on par with Stockholm.

What can you use the information for?
- We want to be able to see if there are special places in the care where we have to go in and take action. But we have just started to bring together the data, quality assurance and analysis.

How evenly is the infection spread across different departments of the hospital?

- I have not seen the information so can not comment on it.

There are upwards of 6,000 health care workers at Akademiska hospital, so if more than 300 have been tested positive so far, this is about 5 percent of the total number of health care workers.
