Political storm on the board of directors of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces ( FEMP ) after its president, the mayor of Vigo, Abel Caballero , put on Tuesday a proposal for aid to transfer the Government far below what Initially spoken by mayors at the May 5 meeting.

A plan that cuts direct aid in 2020 to municipalities to combat the effects of the coronavirus from € 5 billion to € 3 billion. This caused the telematic meeting to be suspended until next May 22, after the complaint of the spokesmen of the Popular Party to open a negotiating process.

In addition to the declining figures, it was very annoying that it was presented without prior notice or consensus, which some mayors interpret as an orchestrated maneuver with the Pedro Sánchez government.

The draft of the proposal, to which THE WORLD has had access, proposes a relief fund of 3,000 million in 2020, very far from the 5,000 that had been agreed upon at the meeting held on May 5 by the mayors of the 15 most populated from Spain.

At that meeting, the Mayor of Córdoba, José María Bellido , presented a document specifying the figure that the municipalities were going to claim from the Executive, which still does not transfer a single euro in aid to local authorities to face the Covid-19 effects.

In addition to that direct relief fund, inspired by Italy, they proposed the creation of a specific public transport rescue fund of 500 million due to the decrease in the number of passengers, as well as the establishment of a fund with 300 million food aid.

The proposal put forward by the socialist Abel Caballero, on the other hand, proposes a fund for bus transport of 1,000 million euros and another of 500 million for the subway, leaving without aid those cities that have the tram as one of their priority transports . And without considering a game, in addition, for spending on food for families without resources.
