May 19, 2020 Spain lifted the blockade of direct flights and ships from Italy, introduced on March 11 as part of measures to contain the Covid-19 epidemic. Travelers from Italy, however, will have to observe a 14-day quarantine period like other foreign visitors as a state of emergency is still in force in Spain.

Meanwhile, as El Pais writes, the government of Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez is preparing to ask Parliament for a further extension of the state of alert in the country, until June 27, in what would be the fifth extension since the start of the pandemic.

Meanwhile, the country is moving towards the mandatory use of masks. The government announced this after meeting yesterday with regional representatives. "Masks will be mandatory on public transport - as is already the case - but also in closed spaces and on the streets, if the minimum safety distance of two meters cannot be respected", the executive announced in a note. Official guidelines on the use of masks will be published in the coming days.
