The white paper shows that as of December 31, 2019, the cumulative number of Chinese satellite navigation patent applications exceeded 70,000, keeping the world's first.
With the rapid development of Beidou global system construction and industrial development, the annual number of Chinese satellite navigation patent applications has continued to grow, especially in the last 3-4 years.
According to the statistics of the China Intellectual Property Center's bibliographic projects on Chinese patent-granting institutions, China's satellite navigation patents have applied for more than 10,000 applications for three consecutive years in 2016-2018. Although the number of applications declined in 2019, as of December 31, 2019 (public time), the cumulative number of patent applications (including invention patents and utility model patents) has reached 74,897, maintaining the world's first.
The white paper pointed out that from the perspective of the distribution of patents in the five technical fields of navigation system, signal processing, information processing, radio frequency unit and GNSS +, the patent applications involving the navigation system are the most, accounting for 39.14% of the total applications. The statistical distribution of satellite navigation-related patents shows that Guangdong Province ranks first with 10,897 patents, Beijing ranks second with 9,470 patents, and Jiangsu Province ranks third with a total of 8392 patents. In addition, patents in Anhui, Henan and Hubei have grown rapidly in the past five years, with average growth rates exceeding 25%.
In the field of mass applications, Beidou is more widely used in e-commerce, smart phones and smart wearable devices. As of the third quarter of 2019, more than 400 mobile phones that have applied for access to the Internet in the Chinese market have positioning functions, including nearly 300 models that support Beidou positioning.
The white paper stated that with the completion of the deployment of the core constellation of the Beidou-3 system in 2019, the Beidou-3 short message communication service will also usher in a comprehensive upgrade of functional performance, the regional service capacity will be increased to 10 million times per hour, and the single communication capacity is 1000 Chinese characters / 14000 bits, global service single communication capability 40 Chinese characters / 560 bits. It is foreseeable that the Beidou No. 3 short message service with high user capacity, large transmission volume, miniaturization and low power consumption is expected to expand into a new application market for the Beidou communication service.
