The Paris Stock Exchange kicked off the week on Monday (+ 5.16%), galvanized by remarks by the President of the Fed, the rise in oil, the hope of progress on a vaccine and the proposal to '' a 500 billion euro European recovery plan.

The CAC 40 index rose by 220.71 points to 4,498.34 points, in a moderate trading volume of 3.5 billion euros, after having briefly exceeded the threshold of 4,500 points. On Friday, it finished close to breakeven (+ 0.11%).

Since its March 16 lows, where it fell by some 40% in a month, the CAC 40 has rebounded by around 24%.

"The big rebound" on Monday was "largely fueled by Jerome Powell's intervention on CBS overnight," who "cut short with his more pessimistic tone last week," said underlined to AFP Alexandre Baradez, analyst at IG France.

The president of the American Federal Reserve (Fed) declared that the institution "was not short of ammunition, far from there", which indicates that "if there is need to support even more the economy and the markets ", the American central bank stands ready, he added.

And the proposal made by France and Germany, shortly before closing, for a recovery plan of 500 billion euros in the face of the economic impact of the new coronavirus, helped to accelerate the upward movement.

Before that, the rise in oil prices "also had a (positive) effect on the market", according to Mr. Baradez.

The price of the benchmark barrel in the United States thus crossed the symbolic threshold of 30 dollars from the start of the session, a first since March 17.

Regarding Huawei, China "has not yet taken countermeasures against US companies," said Baradez.

The United States announced on Friday measures to impede the ability of the world's number two smartphone to develop semiconductors abroad using American technology.

Finally, the announcement of positive data concerning a vaccine project by the American laboratory Moderna against the coronavirus also amply supported the stock market indices.

Side indicators, after Germany on Friday, Japan fell into recession for the first time since 2015.
