Emmanuel Macron and Angela Merkel met on Monday, May 18, to present a "Franco-German initiative" on "the economic recovery of Europe", according to Germany. The French President and the German Chancellor will speak at 5 p.m. to journalists from Berlin and Paris.

The initiative will focus on "health, economic recovery, ecological and digital transition, and industrial sovereignty", said the Elysee.

This exchange comes at a time when the 27 member countries of the European Union are working to get out of the first phase of the Covid-19 crisis, that of emergency measures and containment, which has greatly affected their economies.
