It is a first since March 22. The number of patients in intensive care due to the coronavirus in France has fallen below 2,000 cases, announced the Directorate General of Health, Monday, May 18, during its daily review. In the past 24 hours, however, the Covid-19 epidemic has left an additional 131 people dead.

A total of 28,239 Covid-19-related deaths have been recorded since March 1 and, while 19,015 people are still hospitalized, the number of serious cases in intensive care is 1,998, 89 fewer in 24 hours. This figure, which notably reflects the pressure on the hospital system, has been falling since April 9, after reaching a peak of 7,148.

The number of cases confirmed to SARS-CoV-2 increased from 142,411 to 142,903, 492 more than the previous day.

In detail, 17,589 deaths were observed in hospitals (ie 123 more compared to Sunday May 17) and 10,650 deaths in social and medico-social establishments (eight additional deaths).

In total, 19,015 people are hospitalized, against 19,361 on Sunday (- 346).

Since the start of the epidemic, a total of 98,853 people have been hospitalized, of whom nearly 17,500 have gone through intensive care, and 61,728 people have returned home.
