Fifa plans to organize a match to raise funds to help fight the coronavirus "as soon as the health situation allows," the body said on Monday.

Fifa, which has already made a contribution of 10 million dollars (9.2 million EUR) to the World Health Organization (WHO), this time wants to organize via its foundation a match to raise funds for the benefit "d 'Access to COVID-19 Tools (ACT), a global initiative that aims to accelerate development, production and equitable international access to essential health technologies to fight the coronavirus (diagnosis, treatment, vaccine), "said Fifa. in a press release.

Neither the date nor the possible place of this meeting have been specified while the coronavirus pandemic which has already killed more than 300,000 and paralyzed world sport, still imposes numerous restrictions on travel.

"We are committed to organizing a global event to raise funds as soon as the health situation allows, even if we still have to wait a few months," said Gianni Infantino, president of Fifa, quoted in the statement.

"Several scenarios and projects are currently under study," added former French international Youri Djorkaeff, president of the Fifa Foundation.
