President Moon Jae-in said, "The more truth is revealed to the world, the more the core will be released one by one and we will be able to move closer to the path of forgiveness and reconciliation."

President Moon attended the ceremony to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the May 18th Democratization Movement held in front of the former Jeonnam Provincial Office on May 18th at the Gwangju May 18th Democratic Plaza.

President Moon said, "(The more the truth is revealed, the more distortion and persecution will stop standing.) It must be revealed. "

The following is a specialty for the Memorial.

Respected citizens, Gwangju, Jeonnam city, and residents.
It has been 40 years since Gwangju in May.
In hope of May 18 with citizens and May 18 reviving in daily life, the government will hold the first anniversary of the May 18 Democratization Movement at the plaza in front of the Jeollanam-do Provincial Office here, not at the graveyard of Mangwol-dong.
During the May 18th Rebellion, the square was a love room to check each other's regards, and was a leader of the courageous protest.
We saw a world of Daedong that we can never forget on the square.
Citizens and young students who did not participate in the protests also shared rice balls, cared for the wounded, and were willing to donate blood if they lacked blood.
We met with dictatorship and our other neighbors, and we saw a democracy that could give our lives.
Our democracy, scattered on the plaza in front of the Metropolitan Government, spread to plazas across the country in the past 40 years, making each other's hands hold together.
Finally, in May, Gwangju expanded to the whole country, and the tomorrow dreamed of by the nations became our today.
But a world that can live well still has a long way to go.
Today we need more squares to trust and rely on each other.
We meet on May 18th today with the heart of the spirits of the may spirits who have not cooled down.
We honor the spirits of May, who are always revived with sharing, solidarity, and community spirit, and offer deep consolation and respect to the merit and family members who have kept their spirits as promises of democracy.
We would like to express our special thanks to the citizens of Gwangju and Jeollanam-do who nurtured and shared the spirit of 'May of May,' and the people who remembered Gwangju and protected democracy.
Folks, 'Mayor's spirit' was created by the ordinary hope of ordinary people in response to the suffering of others.
Love for the family and concern for the neighbors gathered and became a just spirit.
Gwangju citizens' mutually encouraging heart and sharing were the powers to combat the overwhelming force of martial law forces.
Although Gwangju was thoroughly isolated, there was no single looting or theft.
I left my money in a store without a master and took things.
The spirit is still in the mind of every Korean citizen.
In overcoming corona, it has become the model power of the world.
Gwangju was the first to set up a hospital bed for Daegu, which was suffering from lack of hospital beds, and Daegu confirmers were able to regain their health and return home.
'Mothers of May' shared their difficulties with rice ball lunches prepared with the dedication of Daegu medical staff.
'The spirit of May' responded to the call of history and became a sublime spirit still alive.
On the morning of May 27, 1980, the citizens who fell here at the Chonnam Provincial Office at the martial law's gun,
believed that the remnant would open up a better world.
I was convinced that today's defeat will be tomorrow's victory.
The living responded to the call of the dead and practiced democracy.
Informing the truth of Gwangju became a democratization movement and May 18 became a great history of democracy in Korea.
"Could I stay on the wiretapping that day?"
If you take the time to ask yourself whatever the answer is, then we are responding to the victims of the day.
Just as people empathize with each other, share pain and create hope, we empathize with true history, gain stronger courage, and create greater hope.
That is our people today.
The 'May of May' spirit must be more widely sympathized and born again and again from generation to generation.
A young man said.
"If you have a qualification to speak about May 18th, it means that the May 18th spirit has not yet bloomed."
The generation who did not experience the 5 · 18 became the parent of the family where they were born and raised, and became the main pillar of our society.
People who were not in Gwangju that day also went through Gwangju together in their own way.
That's right.
'Mayor's spirit' belongs to all of us, not to anyone.
'The spirit of May' can only be called a living spirit when it is constantly rediscovered as a source of courage for us living in this age and for the young people opening the future.
When the 'May of May' spirit is alive in our minds, the truth of May 18 will be constantly unearthed.
Events to share the 'May of May' are being held all over the country for the 40th anniversary of the May 18th Democratization Movement.
We sincerely thank everyone who has a difficult time and meaningful event.
Me and the government will always be with you so that the 'May of May' will be the pride of all of us and enrich the hearts and lives of future generations.
Crisis becomes an opportunity when we can help and share with each other.
Crisis is always harsher for the weak.
Our solidarity will reach the weakest people in our society, and when they can arise, our strength to overcome the crisis will be stronger.
We will continue to strengthen our society's solidarity so that future generations, such as Cha Kyung-tae and Kim Ryun-yi, who have read the progress report and the pledge today, can unleash their dreams in a just and fair world.
Dear fellow citizens, Gwangju citizens have cherished the honor of May 18 with pride over pain.
Even outside Gwangju, many people did not notice the pain of Gwangju and brought the truth of Gwangju to the world.
The government will do its best to find out the truth of May 18.
We will spare no effort to reveal the truth left behind by the May 18th Fact-finding Investigation Committee, which began in earnest on May 12th.
As the truth is revealed to the world one by one, the core of the mind is released one by one, and the more we can approach the path of forgiveness and reconciliation.
Distortion and damage will no longer stand.
The facts of the national violence, such as the identification of firing orders, the massacre of civilians by martial law forces, the truth of helicopter shooting, and suspicion of stealth and manipulation, must be revealed.
Punishment is not the goal.
It is to record history correctly.
Even now, if you courage and confess the truth, the path of forgiveness and reconciliation will open.
We will grasp the location of the 5 · 18 missing person and make sure that no one is depressed even in the recovery of honor, compensation, and compensation for additional victims.
Following last year's cancellation of gunman Lee Jun-gyu, the cancellation of disciplinary action against 21 retired police officers who were disciplined yesterday by the May 18th Democratization Movement was made.
We will do our best to recover the honors of various victims such as soldiers and reporters as well as police officers.
The biggest driving force behind the truth is the people who sympathize with the pain of Gwangju.
As the sovereigns of the Democratic Republic, our people have gone through a huge stream of democracy, from the April 19th Revolution to the Democratic Democratic Republic of Korea, the May 18th Democratization Movement, the June Revolution and the Candlelight Revolution.
The people's steps toward the complete truth of May 18 can never be reversed or stopped.
The truth that the people reveal together and remember together will be the power to make our society more just, and will be the basis for national unity and unity.
Engraving the May 18 Democratization Movement in the Constitutional text is to establish May 18 as a great history of Korea that no one can damage or deny.
In 2018, I proposed a constitutional amendment containing the succession of the May 18 Democracy.
I hope that if one day a constitutional amendment will be fulfilled, that will be preserved.
The decision of Gwangju City, which designated the May 18th Democratization Day as a local holiday, is very meaningful.
'The spirit of May' will be revived constantly in the city hall and plaza.
The government will also actively support the Jeonnam Provincial Office to restore the value of Gwangju's pain and righteous protests through history.
Respected citizens, Gwangju, Jeonnam city, and provincial people,
40 years ago, Gwangju showed the master of this country with sublime courage and devotion.
We recalled Gwangju and asked if we were righteous by ourselves, and by that question we held hands with each other and did not lose courage toward democracy.
People always have the power to change the world.
Through Gwangju, we have experienced that it is democracy to gather more of each other's hearts, share more, and communicate deeper.
The experience imprinted on us will always be our greatest strength in the face of any difficulties.
Now, we must go beyond democracy in politics and society to realize democracy in the home, work and economy, and remember the plaza in front of Jeonnam Provincial Office in May again for a world order that shares and cooperates.
That's the way that those who lived on that day, responded to the call of the dead by defending wiretapping.
Thank you.
