The Responsibility and Care Group, A&O, owns 30 residential and care homes in central Sweden, eight of which are elderly homes in Stockholm County. Following SVT Nyheter's disclosure of deficiencies in Berga's elderly housing in Solna, where staff talked about, among other things, lack of protective equipment and about staff who went between sick and healthy departments, staff from another of the company's accommodation now tell about similar deficiencies.

The testimony comes from Bergsund's care home at Södermalm in Stockholm.

- It's the same as Berga, it's even worse, says "Anna" who works at Bergsund and wants to be anonymous.

Information that 50 elderly people died during the pandemic

A&O has around 600 care locations in the Stockholm area. According to staff records, around 35 people must have died at Berga's retirement home during the corona pandemic. This corresponds to more than a third of the residents there.

According to the staff's assessment, 15 of the residents of Bergsund's elderly residents must have died in Corona.

Municipal: "It looks the same in all places"

Now, Kommunal also confirms that staff have alerted about maladministration at other A&O elderly homes in Stockholm.

- We talk to all members at all facilities and what we get is that it looks the same in all places, says Elisabeth Antfolk, section chair at the Municipal.

Following SVT's review of Berga's elderly housing, a prosecutor has launched a preliminary investigation into the accommodation regarding work environment crimes. However, the management again rejects the criticism and believes that there are clear routines and that no information has been received that indicates that the routines have failed.

The Group Responsibility and Care has repeatedly denied information on defective routines during the prevailing corona pandemic and does not want to comment on death statistics.

- No one has been able to prepare in the way they had hoped. Elderly care and society were not prepared at all, says Group President Sakarias Mårdh.
