Brazil, the Latin American country most affected by the coronavirus, crossed the threshold of 15,000 deaths from the Covid-19 on Saturday and around 230,000 people were infected, according to official statistics which make it the fourth country in the world in term of contamination.

Brazil has registered 816 deaths, bringing the total to 15,633 deaths, and 14,919 new cases in the past 24 hours. The number of contaminations could however be up to 15 times higher, because the tests have not been generalized, observe experts.

Despite the progress of the pandemic, President Jair Bolsonaro attacked the containment measures taken by governors of certain states of the country.

"Unemployment, hunger and misery will be the future of those who support the tyranny of total isolation," the far-right leader tweeted a day after the departure of his second health minister. In office for just four weeks, Nelson Teich has resigned due to disagreements with President Jair Bolsonaro as the country enters the acute phase of the coronavirus epidemic.

Jair Bolsonaro advocates a "return to normal" with economic arguments, and promotes the use of chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine for the treatment of the disease.
