It has been almost a year since the severe air crash in which nine of the Umeå parachute club members died when the plane crashed on the island of Storsandskär just outside central Umeå.

The road back has been tough, not least financially. The club has been without airplanes but now a new one has arrived in Umeå after a trip from Switzerland, via Västerås.

- It's a Cessna 206th. An old tried and tested aircraft type that has existed since the 60s. We have had the same model three times before in the club, says flight manager Ronny Wernersson.

Takes fewer passengers, but is faster

The new plane has an updated, stronger engine that noises less and which, according to the commander, is more reliable. The last plane took eight jumpers, the new only six.

- But it is so much faster that it can handle more jumps per hour. And more economical. It draws less fuel per hopper.

Hope to be able to jump this weekend

If everything goes according to plan, the club expects to be able to jump already during the weekend, but it will be with restrictions understood because of the corona. Only experienced jumpers will participate and then with comprehensive clothing, gloves and helmets.

The club's major source of income is tandem jumping. Right now, they cannot be implemented because of new rules and regulations in corona times.

- I don't know how long it will last. There is nothing that we control over ourselves. The Central Union makes decisions on this issue, says Wernersson.
