In recent months, several attacks have been reported in 4 of the 5 territories that make up the province of Ituri. Thursday, May 14, young people go out to the streets in Mahagi. They block the national road N ° 27 in the territory. They demonstrate against the increase in violence in their region. Mahagi is one of the territories that has been the target of renewed attacks by Codeco militiamen over the past three weeks.

The situation is just as worrying in the Walendu Watshi group, on the border with Djugu territory, long considered the epicenter of violence. In Djugu, militiamen have formed small groups and require the army to adapt its strategy at any time.

A week ago, a new front was opened in Bese, in the Baniali-Kilo group, where the FARDC announced that it had killed 17 militiamen.

In the Mambasa territory, it is the Mai-Mai militiamen who are active. They often loot and attack gold mines run by Chinese companies. From time to time, on the border with North Kivu, ADF combatants also make incursions.

In Irumu territory, militias from Shini ya Kilima sometimes attack army positions in an attempt to loot arms and ammunition. In Kinshasa, sources at the presidency of the Republic announce that police and military reinforcement is expected in Ituri in the coming days.
