Over the past 24 hours, 10 598 new cases of coronavirus infection have been detected in Russia, of which 4748 in Moscow, 945 in the Moscow region.

Thus, the total number of registered cases of COVID-19 in the country reached 262 843, 58 226 people recovered, 2418 died.

According to Rospotrebnadzor, the number of tests performed on COVID-19 exceeded 6.4 million. 256 thousand people remain under medical supervision because of suspected coronavirus.

Earlier, the department said that a person who had been ill with a coronavirus can remain an asymptomatic carrier for two weeks. They explained that, according to a study by Chinese scientists, coronavirus infection can persist in the body for at least 14 days after clinical recovery and the disappearance of all symptoms.

In turn, the Moscow Department of Health said that in the capital’s hospital No. 52, in two weeks of operation of the blood transfusion department, 40 doses of plasma were prepared.

“In 2 weeks of the work of the blood transfusion department at the City Clinical Hospital No. 52, we managed to prepare 40 doses of plasma for the treatment of moderate to severe COVID pneumonia. People who had already defeated coronavirus infection volunteered to help patients, ”the report said.

Oksana Karpova, head of the blood transfusion department of City Clinical Hospital No. 52, explained that plasma transfusion is not a universal method for treating coronavirus, and there are patients who are contraindicated in this procedure. The decision on transfusion of donated plasma is made by a consultation with the participation of a transfusiologist in each case individually based on the clinical situation, she added.

Meanwhile, it became known that in Buryatia, the first case of re-detection of COVID-19 was revealed. This was told by the head doctor of the Republican Infectious Diseases Hospital Tatyana Simbelova.

“On April 21, the patient was discharged with two negative results. After 16 days, she showed signs of SARS. A smear was taken at her place of residence and the secretion of coronavirus infection was found, so she was re-hospitalized. She is now under treatment, ”she said. 

Symbelova clarified that at the moment it is not clear whether this case is a re-infection or a relapse of the infection that the woman had.

In addition, the authorities of Buryatia reported that due to the deterioration of the epidemiological situation, the Kizhinginsky district was closed for two-week quarantine.

“Today, the highest incidence rate of COVID-19 is recorded in Kizhinginsky district. It exceeds the average for other areas by seven times, ”the government said in a statement.

In addition, the Sakhalin Oblast Government announced the first case of coronavirus infection in the Kuril Islands. COVID-19 was discovered in a resident of Dagestan who arrived in Kunashir a few days ago. In this regard, an emergency mode was introduced in Yuzhno-Kurilsk.

Also, the governor of Chukotka Roman Kopin decided to extend the restrictive measures in the region until May 31. According to him, at the moment, district sanitary doctors do not recommend drastically reducing or strengthening preventive measures.

Measures to combat the spread of coronavirus were strengthened in the city of Shimanovsk, Amur Region. There, from May 18 to May 31, a checkpoint will be set for entry and exit with verification of documents at the checkpoint and mandatory disinfection. The city will restrict visits to parks, squares, shopping centers, and also prohibit groups of more than two people from going for walks.

It also became known that the head of the department of Rospotrebnadzor in the Sverdlovsk region Dmitry Kozlovskikh asked the governor Yevgeny Kuyvashev to cancel the mitigation of restrictive measures, RIA Novosti reported with reference to the regional operational headquarters. Kuyvashev had previously signed a decree allowing residents of the region to walk and play sports on the street from May 19, as well as implying the resumption of the work of shops and cafes. 

In turn, Kozlovskikh in his address noted that the current epidemiological situation does not correspond to the decision to move to the first stage of lifting restrictions, in connection with which the governor was invited to extend the high-alert mode. The headquarters said that the proposals of Rospotrebnadzor have been received and are being worked out.

Recall, earlier, President Vladimir Putin said that the decision to weaken the restrictive measures introduced due to coronavirus will be made by the heads of regions based on the epidemiological situation.
