Previously, SSRS has only had a cooperation agreement with the rescue service, but now an agreement has also been signed with Region Östergötland.

- SSRS has also helped with efforts before, but as a result of the agreement, it is now becoming more structured with training and equipment materials, says Kerstin Sjöberg (C), regional council and third deputy chairman of the health board.

Increased security for archipelago residents

The agreement applies on behalf of islands, water and vessels along the coast and in Vättern, pending ambulance and medical transport by boat.

- This provides increased security and more emergency care to residents and visitors to the archipelago. For example, in the event of a cardiac arrest, sea rescue will be alerted and provide first aid while waiting for an ambulance, says Kerstin Sjöberg (C).

The new agreement will take effect from 1 June.
