The government of Slovenia has officially announced the end of the epidemic of the new Corona virus (Covid 19) in the country, while the Chinese Wuhan announced that it has examined one third of its citizens to detect the virus. This comes as the United States awaits the worst winter in modern history.

Slovenia has become the first European country to announce that it is free of the virus, after the authorities confirmed fewer than seven new infections a day with the virus over the past two weeks.

The government said in a statement that the arrivals to Slovenia now from the European Union countries are no longer obligated to enter the quarantine for at least seven days, as was the case since the beginning of last April.

The country with a population of two million people, bordering Italy, Austria, Hungary and Croatia, has recorded 1464 cases of Corona virus so far and 103 deaths.

The government said citizens would still have to follow basic rules to prevent the possible spread of infection.

Tests and infection
comes as the Chinese city of Wuhan announced on Friday that it had tested more than three million of its 11 million citizens to detect the emerging corona virus, while seeking to examine the entire population after a series of new cases raised fears of a second wave of infection.

The city, which was the epicenter of the disease, said it was planning to carry out DNA tests for all citizens in an effort to assess numbers of people without symptoms, according to a report released by the official Xinhua News Agency on Thursday.

The report said that Wuhan monitored several cases that did not show symptoms of the disease on a daily basis recently, noting that the untested cases are for people in whom the test result is positive for the disease, but they do not show any external signs of it.

Meanwhile, the National Health Commission of China said in a statement on Friday that the authorities had registered four new cases of coronavirus yesterday.

The total number of cases on mainland China is 82,933, while the death toll remains unchanged at 4,633.

For his part, an official with the National Health Committee said today that the risk of spreading "Covid 19" disease in China again because of the so-called incidence of infections, "under control."

The alarm
while the situation appears stable and under control in China, the alarm is ringing again in the United States.

In this regard, the former director of the Biomedical Research and Development Authority, Rick Bright, said that "the country has not been prepared to respond to the pandemic."

During his testimony in the House of Representatives, Bright, who was sacked last month at the Health and Human Services Department’s agency to develop drugs to combat coronavirus, added that people in the US administration had ignored scientists ’warnings at the start of the crisis.

He stressed that the coming winter season in the United States may be the worst in modern history, if the authorities do not address the Corona virus as required.

"We must do what we have to do and be guided by the best scientific minds ... Our chance is dwindling ... If we fail to improve our response now, based on science, I fear the pandemic will worsen and continue for a long time," Bright said in his testimony.

This comes in the context of wider controversy and criticism of President Donald Trump's administration for not taking enough early action to tackle the Corona pandemic, whether in terms of providing checks or protective medical devices.

A breakthrough and numbers
In Japan, many regions emerged from the state of emergency for the first time since its imposition, while the Tokyo governor asked the capital's residents to prepare for the "new normal" situation, while restrictions continued in the capital and major cities.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe lifted the state of emergency from 39 regions with about 55 percent of Japan's population, but he said measures would remain in place in Tokyo, Osaka and 6 other administrative regions until Corona virus was clearly contained.

In the context of the latest figures, the number of people infected with the virus rose, according to Johns Hopkins University, to 4 million and 444 thousand infected worldwide. The United States tops the number of injured one million and 417 thousand injured.

In the last hours of Friday, Russia recorded 10598 new confirmed cases of the new Corona virus, bringing the total number of cases nationwide to 262,843.
