It was by four votes to three that the Supreme Court found the extension of containment measures to fight the coronavirus pandemic "  illegal, invalid and unenforceable  ".

Confining all citizens in their homes, prohibiting all travel and closing shops exceeds the regulatory authority of the government,  " said the highest court in Wisconsin. The governor, however, deplores the decision of justice. According to Tony Evers, the court plunges the state into chaos and puts the lives of people at risk.

And just because the Supreme Court says it's okay to open, doesn't mean that science does. We need everyone to continue doing their part to keep our families, our neighbors and our communities safe by continuing to stay safer at home, practice social distancing, and limit travel.

Containment, a strategy at the heart of a fierce battle between Democrats and Republicans

To date, more than 400 people have died from the coranavirus in Wisconsin, a state that reports more than 10,000 cases of Covid-19. The governor had extended traffic restrictions and closed businesses until May 26. Shops that, like restaurants, can therefore open their doors on Thursday, May 14, thanks to this decision of the Supreme Court, which satisfied the Republican parliamentarians who had filed this request.

Wisconsin is not the only state where containment has turned into a legal battle between Democrats and Republicans. But in the other cases, like in California or Michigan, the Conservatives' appeals were unsuccessful.

In mid-April, Donald Trump , for whom the good health of the American economy is a crucial point for the November election, attacked several democratic governors applying confinement on Twitter . Free Minnesota!"  ","  Free Michigan!  "And"  Free Virginia and save your super besieged second amendment!  ", He tweeted. According to the latest assessment of the Covid-19 pandemic, 84,136 people died in the United States, for 1,390,764 contaminations.
